Xun Yu (荀彧), courtesy Xun Wenrou (荀文若), is a friend of Cao Cao's and his family.

For generations, his family has always been the exam settlers for Dong Han Academy . He was expecting to follow his family's footsteps, but when he finds out that he was passed over to Guan Yu, he became devastated and attempted to take it back by stealing Guan Yu's exam settling ink brush. That turned disastrous when he accidentally put it in Diao Chan's bag and got her expelled.

Sun Shang Xiang and Cao Cao arranged a lie detecting activity to lure out the guilty party, and eventually caught him.

Origin

Xun Yu (163 - 212), styled Wenruo (文若), was a strategist and statesman who served as a key advisor to Cao Cao during the Three Kingdoms era of China.
